Honda continues to move towards an electrified future

Honda has announced an initial annual sales target of 70,000 units for the Prologue SUV, the first new battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV), when it goes on sale in 2024.

Following the launch of Prologue, sales of Honda’s electric vehicles will be boosted by the introduction of additional vehicles based on the new electronic architecture currently under development. This will result in Honda reaching expected sales of 500,000 BEVs by 2030. This will ultimately lead to 100 percent zero-emission car sales in North America by 2040.

As with other automakers, Honda’s original targets of 40% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2030 hinge on fair and equitable access to state and federal EV incentives to encourage US consumers to buy EVs. Honda has called on Congress to ensure that all cars made in America are treated equally.

Honda’s initial approach to selling Prologue will be regional, with a focus on California and ZEV states, including Texas and Florida, which are favorable for solar use. Honda expects these regions to account for the bulk of early-launch sales due to higher levels of customer acceptance and regulatory requirements. As the EV infrastructure expands and customer interest grows across the country, the company will rapidly expand sales and marketing efforts to other regions of the country.

Following the introduction in 2024 of the Honda Prologue, co-developed with GM and based on the Ultium platform, in the second half of the decade, Honda will introduce a series of electrified vehicles based on Honda’s electronic architecture and BEV manufacturing.
